Social Media Management Pricing: What Should You Pay?

Social Media Management Pricing: Costs, Packages & Options
Imagine opening three social media quotes. Each promises “12 posts.” The prices are so different you check whether one includes a small car.
The first thing I’d check is what those posts actually involve. Graphics? Original videos? Uploads of content you supply? You’re trying to grow a business, and your coffee already works overtime.
This guide compares real prices, explains the extra costs and helps you decide which work to outsource.
Quick answer: Upwork estimates $400–$2,000 per month for small-business management of two channels, while LYFE publishes agency packages at $750–$1,550 per month. Software subscriptions cost less because they cover different work: compare content production, publishing, customer replies and your own time before choosing.
How much does social media management cost?
These are published examples, not universal market averages. Prices were checked October 31, 2026, in USD. Software prices use monthly billing; taxes and extras may apply.
| Option | Price reference | What you receive | Work you still handle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | Upwork estimates $400–$2,000/month for small-business two-channel management | Agreed services from an individual | Approvals, agreed inputs and uncovered tasks |
| Agency | LYFE lists $750–$1,550/month | Packages with specified formats, posting and monitoring | Business inputs, approvals and separate advertising spend |
| In-house manager | Salary plus employer and operating costs | Dedicated internal capacity | Hiring, supervision and specialist support |
| Software or AI-assisted workflow | Buffer Essentials: $6/channel/month; Reloop Creator: current $34/month offer | Plan-specific creation, publishing or analysis features | Decisions, review and tasks outside the software |
A subscription doesn’t come with a tiny employee living inside your laptop.
Use local quotes for your final decision. A worldwide freelance rate, a US agency package and an employee salary measure different things. Compare the same work over the same period before deciding which is cheaper.
What should social media management pricing include?
“Management” can describe very different jobs. Establish which responsibilities you’re buying.
| Work | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Research and planning | Audience, competitors, ideas and recommendations |
| Content production | Original concepts, scripts, graphics, filming and editing |
| Platform adaptations | Different captions, covers, crops and versions |
| Publishing | Channels, frequency, approvals and scheduling |
| Community management | Comments, messages, response hours and escalation |
| Reporting | Results, interpretation and recommended changes |
Count original assets separately from uploads. Four videos published on three platforms produce twelve publishing slots. That’s four ideas wearing three different hats.
Also separate making an ad from running the paid campaign. A manager may supply creative without handling targeting, budgets or optimization.
And confirm who films. A lovely caption still cannot hold the camera.
For reporting, request an example of the recommendations you’ll receive. A useful review should connect results to a decision, such as changing the opening, improving the offer or stopping a weak format.
Social media management costs by hiring option
Freelance social media manager
Freelancers suit businesses needing a defined service with direct communication.
Upwork lists $14–$35/hour, based on certain historical contracts worldwide. Its separate monthly estimates concern intermediate US-based specialists. Neither is a guaranteed quote for your project. See Upwork’s rate definitions.
Ask for estimated hours and a spending cap. An illustrative 20 hours at $30/hour costs $600 before other fees. Your calculator needs both numbers. It gets lonely with one.
Specify who supplies footage, handles revisions and covers urgent messages. Freelancers also take holidays. Even excellent ones occasionally meet a beach.
For retainers, ask what happens when the included hours or deliverables run out: does work pause, move to next month or trigger an extra charge? Agree that before the first busy week.
Social media management agency
Agencies can coordinate several skills, but check the actual delivery team.
LYFE’s published packages illustrate how format affects price:
- $750/month: 12 image posts across Facebook and Instagram.
- $1,350/month: 12 vertical-video posts across Instagram and TikTok.
- $1,550/month: 20 vertical-video posts across Instagram and TikTok.
Its cards also list monitoring and responding. Confirm filming arrangements, response coverage and revision limits in your proposal. These are one agency’s offers, not industry averages. View the package details.
An agency logo doesn’t mean twelve people work on your account. Logos are terrible at editing videos.
In-house social media manager
Hiring makes sense when you need sustained involvement, frequent access to your team and close product knowledge.
For illustration, a $60,000 annual salary equals $5,000 per month before additional costs. This is arithmetic, not a salary benchmark.
Budget for employer contributions, benefits, equipment, software and specialist production. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics distinguishes wages from benefit costs; salary alone is an incomplete comparison.
Check the role’s capacity too. Strategy, filming, editing, publishing and customer service take time. If you need eight hands, you’re hiring an octopus.
Software and AI-assisted social media management
Software suits teams that can direct the work but need help producing or publishing it.
Buffer Essentials costs $6 per channel per month for the first ten channels, so two channels cost $12/month before tax. It includes publishing, an AI assistant and analytics, among other features. Buffer’s official plan comparison explains the limits.
A scheduler can remember Tuesday. It cannot film your new shampoo.
Creation platforms can also help produce assets. Compare generation credits, editing, supported channels and approval workflows using our

Count your review time and any extra production help. Software doesn’t take lunch breaks. You still do.
For an illustrative two-channel setup, $12 in software plus eight hours of your time valued at $25/hour represents $212 of combined monthly cost. Only $12 is the subscription bill; $200 is your assumed time cost. Replace those assumptions with your own.
Why can two social media quotes cost so differently?
Consider two hypothetical twelve-post packages:
- Package A: Uses your existing photos, writes captions and schedules uploads.
- Package B: Researches concepts, scripts demonstrations, films footage, edits versions and handles daily comments.
The post count matches. The workload doesn’t. The product hasn’t learned to direct itself.
Look for these differences:
- Original production versus reused material.
- Platform-specific versions versus identical cross-posting.
- Scheduled publishing versus active community coverage.
- Limited revisions versus substantial creative changes.
- Specialist research and approvals versus straightforward messaging.
Reporting quality matters too. Ask what the findings will change next month. A PDF full of numbers isn’t enough. My toaster has numbers too.
Clarify what counts as a revision. Correcting an error, changing an approved script and commissioning a new concept can involve very different amounts of work.
Extra costs to check before you commit
Ask for first-month costs, recurring fees and optional extras separately.
- Setup: Onboarding, account configuration and initial research.
- Production: Filming, locations, creators, music and usage rights. Our
UGC creator cost guide explains that production expense. - Changes: Extra revisions, urgent work and additional formats.
- Software: More accounts, seats, credits or paid assets.
- Advertising: Platform spend and any separate campaign-management fee.
- Commitment: Taxes, minimum terms and cancellation arrangements.
Setup fees love arriving after you’ve mentally spent the budget. Rude little fees.
For a concrete example, LYFE lists a $300 setup fee and excludes advertising dollars from its management fee. Its $750 plan therefore starts at $1,050 before ad spend, taxes or other agreed extras, then $750/month for the stated service. Check its fee breakdown.
Paying the manager doesn’t pay the ad platform. That’s a second hungry mouth.
Should you choose a freelancer, agency or AI-assisted workflow?
Choose around the work you need covered and the time you can contribute.
| Your situation | Route worth considering | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| You can direct and review content | Software or AI-assisted workflow | Creation limits and remaining workload |
| You need a defined skill or regular support | Freelancer | Capacity, scope and backup coverage |
| You need filming and several specialist skills | Agency or production partner | Actual production and management inclusions |
| You need daily involvement across the business | In-house manager or dedicated managed service | Coverage, supervision and total cost |
Founder with existing product knowledge: You can approve claims and answer customers, but creating content takes too long. An AI-assisted workflow may fit.
Small team needing original footage: Hire someone who can capture the product properly. If you hate filming, a software subscription won’t make you love your tripod. Our
video ad agency guide covers that production decision.
Business needing daily replies and specialist support: Prioritize reliable human coverage. You can still use software alongside that service.
Conversely, hiring a full agency just to upload finished clips can be like hiring a chef to open crisps.
How to compare social media management quotes fairly
Ask every shortlisted provider the same questions:
- How many original assets and platform versions will we receive?
- Who supplies footage, product information and approvals?
- What revisions and response hours are included?
- What do reporting and recommendations actually contain?
- Which accounts, files and usage permissions remain with us?
- What is the full commitment, including onboarding and exit costs?
Then compare the agreed scope and your remaining workload. Headline prices alone can fool you. Remember the cheap printer with the very expensive ink.
An expensive package isn’t better value simply because it includes more services. Pay for responsibilities you actually need covered, with a named person accountable for delivery.
When Reloop fits your social content budget
Reloop fits small teams that need help deciding what to create, making it and getting it published.
Its workflow connects market intelligence, content recommendations, creation, asset organization and TikTok/Instagram scheduling. Use competitor activity to investigate ideas, then create social posts, marketing videos, product demos, explainers and ads around your own offer.
Competitor attention suggests things to test; it doesn’t reveal their profit. Our
competitor ad analysis guide explains that distinction.
Keep finished assets organized instead of letting your content folder become a sock drawer.
You still approve claims, check outputs and arrange customer-response coverage. Compare the current plan and credit limits against the content you need.
If research and production are your main bottlenecks, start with your business and create content you can review before publishing.
